Democrats Walking Away From Liberals
For those not familiar with the “Walkway” movement it was started last year by Brandon Straka, a former liberal and Democrat who suddenly became aware of how Liberals were acting like anything but “liberal.”
He saw them using mobs on college campuses to shut down invited conservative speakers and violently confronting Trump supporters for simply having a different political view.
The movement is all about reclaiming civility and respecting others, which is no longer a part of the liberal creed.
The after-effects of such a consequential change experienced by former Democrats can leave some emotionally drained, thus the reason why Straka encourages individuals to post their personal experiences on the official YouTube video channel.
To date, there are over 150 individuals sharing their personal story of why they decided to walk away?
A large majority of those individuals speak of a “civility gap” between the left and the non-left. Fully 70% say that the left is less civil than Republicans and others.
These 150 individuals provide heartfelt testimony as people who used to vote Democratic, now find themselves the object of scorn by rabid leftists. Many describe the sudden fallout from deviating from leftist dogma, the universal de-friending on Facebook and on other social media platforms.
Many laments losing lifelong friends, and in some instances family members, all because they left the Democratic Party, and decided to think for themselves.
The “Walkway” methodology is observational data, not a questionnaire. The video clips once viewed, suggest that over 70% believe there’s a “civility gap” among Democrats and liberals, with the other 30% not sure.
In June of 2018, when Straka a lifelong Democrat first uploaded what would become the first prototype video of the “walk away” movement of an individual looking straight into the camera, without any props and begins to tell his story of why he’s walking away from the Democratic Party, and perhaps more importantly the cult-like ideology that robs individuals of critically assessing what is actually taking place in America.
The study examines only those 150 individuals at the official site posted June 29 to Nov. 5, 2018. However, there is an abundance of videos on the YouTube channel, which can also be viewed.
Of the 150 videos, 48 were individuals who “came out” for the first time, most often expressing apprehension about the grief they will catch.
One such individual is Justin, who describes his experience in his video titled “I’m gay and I chose to #WalkAway after testing conservatives.”
“I had lost over 500 friends on Facebook. … I decided to do a couple of experiments because people said the Republican Party will never accept you, as a gay man, they’re against your lifestyle, they hate you. So I found the largest Trump, pro-Trump groups on Facebook, I joined them, and I posted in these groups, intentionally the ones that felt the most extreme-right to me, about my sexual preference, about being raised Buddhist, about my feelings on same-sex marriage, how I felt about equality. … And in one of these groups, I got over 1,000 responses. I read every single one of them. And there was not a single disparaging word. There was not a single insult.”
