Media (Again) Hides Russian Lawyer’s Connection to the Clintons
From the New York Times:
The new indictment again raised questions about whom Ms. Veselnitskaya was representing when she met with Donald Trump Jr., Jared Kushner, Paul Manafort and others at Trump Tower in Manhattan.
That meeting is one focus of the investigation by the special counsel, Robert S. Mueller III, into whether the Trump campaign coordinated with Russia’s covert operation to sway the presidential race. It was organized after an intermediary promised that Ms. Veselnitskaya would deliver documents that would incriminate Hillary Clinton.
Last April, Ms. Veselnitskaya acknowledged in an interview with NBC News that she was not merely a private lawyer, but a source of information for the Russian prosecutor general, Yuri Y. Chaika. Now, prosecutors in Manhattan say she collaborated clandestinely with that office to write an official letter that benefited Prevezon.
For years, Ms. Veselnitskaya has been regarded as a trusted insider and go-to lawyer for the Moscow regional government. So as you can read from the Times’ own account, this lawyer’s relationship with Moscow is not exactly breaking news, but hey, any excuse to go back to the collusion well one more time.
What we find interesting is that every time the media starts running stories about the Trump Tower meeting and Veselnitskaya, they always seem to forget to mention that at the time of that meeting, she was working closely with FusionGPS. Yes, the very same FusionGPS paid by the Clinton folks to dig up Russian dirt on Donald Trump. She met with them both before and after that Trump Tower meeting.
It’s also worth mentioning that Veselnitskaya’s big scandal is that she offered some dirt on Clinton. It’s pretty ironic to claim that this would be illegal collusion with a foreign entity on the one hand and then claim that the dossier procured by Fusion is A-OK political gamesmanship.
Which is one reason, we assume, that the media just leaves that whole Fusion part out altogether.
